Mutawa who beat British refused to accept Punishment

A latest development of the case when four Haia (The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice) members (Mutawas) beat the British couple has been aired in the news. If you have not read the full story, please read it here “British Couple Attacked by Mutawas”. One of those four members of Haia has refused to accept the punishment from The Haia. He has taken a legal action against their own department. They have sued the Haia (The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice) claiming that Haia has taken actions against him in an unjustified way.

We want our readers to know that just after that incident, Haia initiated and inquiry against all four officers involved in beating the British couple. The four people who were involved were moved down from their current designations and appointed in remote areas of Riyadh for some administrative tasks. Moreover, a case is also in the progress against these four people. Saudi Gazette reported that Haia members who are involved in such incident may face a penalty up to SR 20,000 and up to 10 years of Jail.

I fully trust the courts of Saudi Arabia since they are strict in providing just to the accused one. But I am astonished to see how that Mutawa mustered up his courage to file a case against him own department. Had this happened to some European country, the officer may have to face immediate termination. He should be thankful to the Haia that they did not terminate him. Let’s see, what happens next.
