List of Prohibited Items to Bring (Import) in Saudi Arabia

Every Country has its own rules and regulations and Saudi Arabia is not an exception. While you are visiting to any country, you need to research what is allowed to bring in to that country and same goes with Saudi Arabia. The rules and regulations regarding import of items are bit more conservative in Saudi Arabia as you are not owed to bring alcoholic drinks, porn material and many other things. Someone requested to share the list of items which are banned or prohibited to bring in Saudi Arabia and today I am sharing this list with you people. Any restricted or prohibited items in shipment will cause delays, may be subject to confiscation and may cause possible fines or penalties to passenger or the person who is sending it to Saudi Arabia. Cartons containing suspected items should be clearly labeled as to contents and must not be mixed with other items.



List of Prohibited Items to Bring in Saudi Arabia
  1. Alcohol distilling equipment, Alcohol in general, Alcohol-containing items, flavoring extracts, cooking wines, wine making kits, books on manufacturing of such drinks or any foods with alcohol, alcoholic beverages,  kinds of Liquor, or items containing liquor as an ingredient  (please read into this link to know about the punishment of drinking alcohol in Saudi Arabia)
  2. Dogs except with permission from the Saudi Arabian embassy in origin country (Please read into this link for the instructions to be followed to bring certain type of dogs in Saudi Arabia “Procedure to Bring Pets in Saudi Arabia”)
  3. Pornographic, sex toys, items related to sex and/or obscene material, literature including fashion magazines with people wearing undergarments or swimsuits, Massage devices which are presented in an immoral  way  (We have Published a separate Article upon this subject “Pornography in Saudi Arabia” ALL PRINTED MATTER, BOOKS, PICTURES, RECORDS, FILMS, TAPES, SLIDES, MOVIES, VIDEOS, COMPACT DISCS, COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND DISKETTES, ETC. ARE SUBJECT TO CENSORSHIP AND CONFISCATION (MUST BE PACKED SEPARATELY FOR EASY ACCESS AND CLEARLY MARKED ON THE INVENTORY)
  4. Animal blood products, Frogs meat, Furs & Ivory, Live animals including insects, Pigs (Swine) and pork products, Processed or Unprocessed dead animals or parts, spawn of silk-worms, any kinds of soil, leaf, stem, straw and natural manure
  5. Bible, Christmas trees, Crosses, Crucifixes or stars of David, decorations or any other items (BIBLES) associated with religions other than the Muslim faith, Articles contrary to Muslim or Saudi Arabian beliefs or morality will not be allowed into the country, Items offensive to Muslims Culture
  6. Cars with steering wheels on the right side, Annoying car horns or horns that play tunes, Used tires or retread tires
  7. Counterfeit money
  8. Gambling devices, Lottery tickets or Slot machines
  9. Human Parts
  10. Industrial waste and hazardous refuse
  11. Items of human concealment
  12. Laser pens or pointers, Pinhole glasses
  13. Light emitting shoes in which mercury is used
  14. Medicine MUST be accompanied by doctor's prescription and is to be for personal use only
  15. Military Items, Military uniforms or equipment of any kind
  16. Narcotics without exception regardless of form, Betel, Poppy Seeds, Tobacco advertisements, Tobacco advertising materials
  17. Night vision binoculars through which it is possible to   see in the dark, binoculars that capture images at  night and binoculars for targets identification or similar items
  18. Nutmeg fruit, its seed and powder. It is only permitted to import nutmeg powder mixed with other spices in the allowable limit, which shall not exceed 20%.
  19. Politically sensitive material
  20. Potassium Bromate used as an enhancer in bread production.
  21. Prototype of Kaaba Shrine, Prototype of Prophet Mohammad’s stamp (peace be upon him), Quran in commercial quantities, Statues, figurines, carvings, etc
  22. Satellite cards
  23. Stuffed animals and Pokémon toys
  24. Weapons and firearms (real or ornamental), including guns, Antique guns, ammunition, fireworks, spears and other edged weapons, Special types of knives for aggressive purposes like double edged knives, or handheld knives, Explosive and radioactive materials, crackers etc. (owner subject to investigation, fines, and/or imprisonment), Dangerous goods, hazardous or chemical combination materials, Explosives except by licensed importers, chemical, explosives, fuels, fertilizers and poisons “toxics”, Hazardous waste, including but not limited to used hypodermic needles or syringes or other medical waste,
  25. Wireless telephones, Radio transmitter/communication equipment (including walkie-talkies, short-wave, VHF, marine, police band equipment, Satellite phone cards, Devices which transmit programs, Car antennas similar to the ones used by security cars wirelessly, Security car radar detection equipment, Voice Changing Devices, Cameras which permit viewing the body without clothes (naked, Tools and devices used in opening doors and cars (pick-locking)  etc.) 
  26. Zamzam Labeled water is prohibited to bring in Saudi Arabia for commercial purpose as it is holy water which is only extracted from Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
