Top 6 Deadliest Wars in the History of Mankind

War is something which has ravaged through each part of this earth and still continues to this day. Throughout history there have been many wars, some small and some world wars. It is something that has become so common, that if a war erupts somewhere on earth, most of us would not be surprised. Every country has certain hostility towards another country, some are neutral, yet some are at war on their borders 24/7, for example Pakistan and India. The two countries have had many wars since their separation from one another. However these are not the only wars that have occurred throughout history, and below you can find the deadliest wars ever to have been waged by mankind.


  1. The most brutal, bloody and deadly war in history is the Second World War. This war was more or less similar to the First World War, as two alliances again were made, which were the Axis and the Allies. It should be noted that this barbarism also included the holocaust and the only large scale usage of nuclear weapons in history. The war is estimated to be responsible for the deaths of over 70 million people.

  2. The expansion of the Mongol Empire was due to the war that was sparked in the 13th century. Many historians confirm the fact that Mongol attacks and Invasions had such brutality, which was not seen before. Europe had been terrorized by the Mongols like never before. It is estimated that more than 60 million deaths took place during the Mongol Invasions.
  3. Next on this list we have World War 1. This is one of the most brutal and bloodiest wars to ever have taken place on earth. This war was fought by all of the superpowers in the world forming 2 alliances, one was the Central Powers and the other was the Allies. The death toll for this war is estimated to be more than 50 million soldiers and civilians.
  4. The Vietnam War is next on this list. The war was basically fought between Northern Vietnam, who were being heavily backed by China and their other communist allies, and South Vietnam, who were being completely supported by the United States. It is estimated that more than one and a half million civilians were killed due to the war and many hundreds of thousands of soldiers from both sides died during battle.
  5. The soviet war in Afghanistan, which occurred some decades ago, is still causing problems for the people in the region. In the war Russian troops led the afghan forces against their own civilians and other volunteers who formed the mujahedeen. It is recorded that more than a million Afghan civilians were killed in the war. Even though the war was being fought in Afghanistan, all the super powers of the world were heavily financing one side or the other.
  6. The American civil war was one of the deadliest wars in history. The war basically had the northern part of America fight the southern part of America. It is recorded that more than 800,000 soldiers and civilians were killed in the war.
