Fashion is one of the biggest industries in the world today. With hundreds of million dollars worth of business being conducted annually all around the world, it is to no surprise that the Middle Eastern or Arab people want a piece of it. Probably the biggest Fashion event to happen in the Middle East, Fashion Forward has returned to Dubai again this week. It is the fifth ever season of the event held on an annual basis where all emerging and established Arab designers gather and keep an eye on the proceedings and trends of the market. Below are the top 5 Middle Eastern designers you should know;
Mashael al Rajhi: Rajhi is a designer born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and has achieved an undergraduate degree in fashion design and business prior to the launch of her label, Mashael Al Rajhi in 2013. The label held a strong presence in this year’s event with the fabrics and texture being selected with layering in mind. A keystone in their clothing line is handmade artisan craftsmanship.
Fatema Fardan: Fardan is born in the UAE and is the owner and creative director of Fatema Fardan Designs which is her own clothing line which was launched in 2014. Fardan has completed her education from the Regents University of London in marketing and fashion design. Her clothing line has also collaborated with Swarovski and the collaboration is set to bring about an exhibition called “Sparkling Couture”. Fatema Fardan was the first ever Emirati designer to showcase her collection in New York.
Hussein Bazaza: Bazaza is a Lebanon based designer who had been awarded with the Fashion Design Prize (Prix De Stylisme) for the graduation project he created back in 2011. He had graduated from ESMOD and had continued to work for huge names in the fashion world such as Elie Saab and Maison Rabih Kayrouz. The Lebanese National has won Elle Style Awards Best Upcoming Middle East Designer where he had been voted unanimously by 44 of the Global Elle Editors. This year again he has been awarded with Best Emerging Designer for the Middle East Fashion award.
Lama Jouni: After completing education at Parsons Paris, Lebanon based Jouni has worked for several big names in the Fashion world such as Reed Krakoff, Rad Hourani and the one and only Balmain. In 2013 she created her own high street label and has participated in several Fashion Awards every week.
House of Nomad: The creative duo Saleh Al Banna and Ahmed el Sayed began their line back in 2014. Sayed had graduated in fashion design from the Virginia Common Wealth University located in Qatar where as Banna has attained a degree in graphic designing from the American University located in Dubai. The creative duo behind the House of Nomad have wasted no time to prove their expertise in sports luxury style and also recently won the Grazia Best Regional Newcomer prize further showcasing their immense talent.
