In the daily local newspaper Al-Madina, it is reported that, the ministry of Labor is going to introduce publically its program named “work from distance”. This program is basically for women who want to work from homes. This news has been confirmed by an official source in ministry on Tuesday. According to the sources, it is estimated that almost 200,000 Saudi women would gain jobs by the non-government sector in the next four years. The 7 cities where the program initially launched are Madinah, Qassim, Jazan, Najran, Al Ahsa, Hail and Arar. It is reported that the government plans to extend the program to 40 more areas and cities in the near future through the kingdom.
It is the key program which is expanding the job opportunities for the women and increasing female employment. This program will help the Saudi women to secure their financial independence. Job centers have already been set up in 7 cities to supervise the women home based employment. He added that these business centers will work under the administration of the department HRDF (Human Resources Development Fund). The ministry of labor has issued license to these centers to hire Saudi women under private sector. The sources said that the idea of the program actually the copy of an Indian experimental program. Not only that help of some Indian companies primarily Tata Company has been taken to install the electronic monitoring system through which it can be possible to check the prescribed relationship between the women and the private sector.
The monitoring system is necessary to make sure this employment system satisfactory and also the program is not being used for bogus citizenship. Through these job or business centers it will be easy for the ministry of labor to have a check on all the parties whether employer or employee who are involved in this labor relationship. The home-based work program is not new. It began originally in 2013 a few years ago. Saudi Arabia announced the distance work program to increase opportunities for job hunters, specifically for women and those who are living in faraway areas.
It is an opportunity for the women to cut costs and problems of transportation or taking care of children at home. Many women could not work in the private sector because they are facing transportation problems. Home based employment program solved this problem to some extent. Women unemployment ratio in Saudi Arabia has been on the rise, and people are blaming private sector for the increase of unemployment.
The unemployment rate for Saudi women reached to 32.8 percent in 2014 which was 15 percent in 2013 while that for men rose to 5.9 percent in 2014. The total unemployed rate to some extent increased to 11.7 percent in 2014 from 11.5 percent in the past. Now days, because of home based employment programs, many companies offer home-based jobs. Even the United Nations is offering many home-based jobs.
