I have been receiving this image through whatsapp and many different sources from last many days. People want to know if it is really true. The text in the image says that labor office fee which is currently SR 2,400 per annum will be increased to SR 6,000 per annum. Every employer has to pay this fee at the time of renewal of Iqama. This picture has been in circulation on social media as well. To be frank, I really had no idea about the authenticity of the news. But I knew one thing that the channel used for the circulation of this news is not authentic. Finally, Jawazat has taken some action and clarified the issue.
“Rumors have been doing the rounds on the social media about the residential permit renewal fee as SR 2,400 to SR 6,000 on social media. This is absolutely false and people should not believe everything that is put on social media,” Talal Al-Shalhoub, spokesman for the General Directorate of Passports, said. The passport department has discouraged people from believing on such false news. It is important to clarify and educate our readers that the official news is only published on the twitter accounts of the respective departments and on reliable newspapers.
The increase in fee for the renewal of Iqama including labor office fee is under consideration of Ministry of Labor. However, no decision has been made so far. There are different proposal under discussion by higher authorities. According to the statement of Ahmed Al-Humaidan, deputy minister of Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the decision to increase the work permit fee has been on the table for a while.
It is also important to remind our readers that the decision to increase different categories of visa fee has been made recently and it will be implemented from 1st of Muharram 1438. (Oct 02, 2016). Among other visa categories, government is increasing fee for the exit re-entry visa, multiple exit re-entry visa and family visit visa. We have covered it in detail in the following link. Recommended: Exit Re-Entry, Family Visit, Hajj, Umrah Visas Fee drastically increased
Even if government decides to increase the labor office fee from SR 2,400 to SR 6,000, this fee will not be imposed on many employers. As we have already published an article that employers are exempt from paying this amount if certain conditions are met. Recommended: No More Iqama Fee of SR 2,400 for Expatriates
