City Wise - Number of Expats and Saudis in Saudi Arabia

The expatriates from around the world that are currently residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as working here, are currently dominating the labor market of the private sector with 8.9 million expatriate workers from around the world, pitted against 1.8 million local Saudis who are in representation of only 16.7 percent of the total labor force in this sector alone. In accordance to the data which had been released by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the workforce existing in the private sector has been made up of around 10.7 million workers out of whom only 1.8 million are local Saudi workers while the rest are expatriates from around the world.



The Ministry of Labor and Social Development has stated that the local Saudi population without doubt has an upper hand when it comes to the public sector. In accordance to recent statistics the public sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia currently employs 3.4 million local Saudi workers in comparison to 500,000 expatriates from around the world. The data, which had been issued in March and subsequently made available, last Monday, had stated that the local Saudis make up for about 35 percent of the total workforce in the public as well as in the private sector combined. The data further stated that the direct ratio of the female workers in the private sector is also on the lower side as they represent around 30 percent of the private sector employees or workers.



In accordance to the data, the GDP or Gross Domestic Product that is generated by the public sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represent around 17 percent of the GDP in comparison to the 83 percent which is generated solely by the private sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The data further stated that the energy sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had topped off all the other sectors in terms of the ratio of the Saudization of jobs which constitute around 77.9 percent in comparison to the 2.9 percent which had been in the agricultural sector and is the lowest Saudization ratio or the lowest ratio of job nationalization in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


The region of Hail has topped out of all the other regions in terms of the number of female workers working in the private sector. Statistical data shows that female workers constitute around 43 percent of the total workers in the private sector in Hail. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development has spotted around 966 violations to the decision of banning work under the sun in between the 15th of June and the 27th of July, which had been made by the Ministry itself.


The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Mr. Fahd Al Owaidi stated that there are around 829 total establishments located in all the regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that have violated this ban which had been implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
