Saudi Arabia is one of the hottest countries in the world where the temperature in summers can reach as high as fifty degree Celsius. The country experiences hot and arid temperature throughout the year. Summers are extremely hot while winters are a bit moderate. The nationwide temperature does vary, but as the Kingdom lies in the tropics, the average temperature is 18 degree Celsius. Saudi Arabia is an important country for all the Muslims around the world: it is a Holy place for them.
One of the five pillars of Islam is Hajj: which is a mandatory religious duty. Hajj can be performed by visiting the Holy Kaaba and fulfilling all the rituals there and places in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, every year Muslims from various nations visit the Saudi Arabia to fulfill one of the obligatory duties i.e. Hajj. As Hajj can be performed once a year, Muslims can perform Umrah 12 months a year, yet in Mecca only. Muslims around the world visit Mecca to perform Hajj and/or Umrah, which are mandatory religious duties. The city of Mecca exhibits hot climate. The summers are extremely hot and humid: one can experience days as hot as 40°C. While winters are not that charming either: the average temperature in winter during day time is as high as 30°C, however, the nights are bit cooler.
In such weather conditions, it becomes difficult for the visitors to perform their Hajj or umrah. As Haram has no shades upon it, the floors can give heat burns to Muslims performing their rituals. But those who have visited Haram must have experienced its cool floors even in the striking summer days. But how can these floors which do not have any shades upon them cold to touch even in Saudi Arabia’s searing temperature?
Must have heard to water pipes installed beneath them. But the authorities claim that these are just false rumors. To give every type of comfort to the visitors and ease their experience of performing Hajj and/or Umrah unique marble has been installed in the Holy Kaaba and the Grand mosque. The office of the general presidency of affairs of two holy mosques has shattered down all the rumors and proclaimed that no continuous water pipes are flowing beneath the floors of Holy Kaaba and the Grand Mosque to keep them cool.
Rather the only reason that these floors exhibit coolness in hot summer days are Thassos. Thassos is a Greece marble that can reflect the sun rays and remains cool in summers. Saudi Arabia has imported and installed this marble which lessens intensity of heat during the day and comforts the pilgrimage for the visitors. The reports also claim that Saudi Arabia’s government has brought the land from Greece which is which in Thassos.
